* – (in)dependent constitutional court

Brief:
During a poster design workshop conducted on 8th – 11th June 2016 participants were supposed to express a personal point of view, and create impact at large scale by conducting the message on the current state in transformations done with Polish constitutional court. The client is an invited observer, Filip Wejman – the lawyer representing Polish NGO INPRIS (Institute for Law and Society). Chosen posters are printed in Gazeta Prawna and are distributed in associated NGOs.

Agenda:
There is a court in Poland which controls whether the laws made by the parliament or government are consistent with the Constitution – this is the Constitutional Court (Tribunal).The Tribunal can cancel the laws that contravene the Constitution. By eliminating unconstitutional laws, the court protects the liberties of citizens from overreach by politicians; citizens have a stake in a well-functioning Tribunal. In order to do its job, the Tribunal must be independent of the parliament and government.

The prototype was done as a sketch, translated into a rapid paper-and-pins sculpture to study the balance of the forms. As each of the forms presents the parts that define the role and functionalities of the constitutional court, the overall figure becomes unstable due to the connections/communication between them.

After the figure was built and documented, the photo was rendered in Autodesk Maya with rendering (color, texture, light). Finally, the poster was edited in Adobe Photoshop and typography was added in Adobe InDesign.

Among five other works by the workshop participants, the poster designed by me was featured in a publication dedicated to constitutional law issues in Dziennik Gazeta Prawna, a Polish newspaper on jurisprudence.
